  • Removing window tints

Hello, does anyone know an easy way to remove window tints from the front windows? Someone told me nail varnish remover is good? do I have to take off the interior trim panels?

I got pulled over today by the police and handed a £30 spot fine for having (fairly lightly) tinted front windows and now I have to remove them. It makes me a bit angry because they said the reason they were stopping people was because there had been an increase in car crime in forest town and clipstone and the people responsible wre likely to drive round in cars with tinted windows.

Which is kind of odd cause when someone tried to pinch my car in forest town the police didn't give a flying ****.
Ho hum Perhaps i'm missing how handing out spot fines to regular motorists is reducing vehicle thefts
And the policewoman asked me what make it was and I said it was a Hilux Surf, and on the form she's put Hyundai surf. Guess traffic cops really know their stuff

surely if the ticket has been written out wrong then the fine don't stand.Your vehicle aint a hyundai is it so the ticket is wrong.I would contess the ticket myself as its not your fault the ticket hasn't got the right vehicle make on it

I did think of that, I thought that you could contest it as it's written wrong, but I think I remember reading that the notice thingie is an invitation to admit guilt.
So if I pay it then I admit I was wrong, but if I contest it then it will go to court where I could oclaim that the officer was not paying sufficient attention so all her evidence should then be deemed untrustworthy, but the judge won't simply throw it out cause she put the wrong vehicle on it? At least that's what I think ,from what i've read but could (please hopefully!!) be wrong

i would look into it a bit more tho cause if she wasn't paying attention then she wasn't doing her job right.
You got nothing to lose by looking into it more tho or even let it go to court.Did they actually test the tint on the windows to prove it was to dark or did they just say it was to dark.I thought they had to check the tints before stating it was to dark and for it to be removed

also did they test the glass?should have used a meter to test the tint, anything 70% or above light is legal, that aside no easy way of removing tint, best way is get a hair dryer, warm the glass gently then get a stanley blade, put window down a bit, start by lifting tint from the exposed edge and just keep going, once all the film is off u will be left with glue, use thinners/nail varnish remover etc for that

Hey fellow field archer, if its tinted film then hairdryer to soften and peel it bit by bit then nail varnish or thinners to remove the leftover glue residue.
You should find the tint only goes down about half inch below the rubber seal.
Took it out of our celica and the rear window of me surf cause surf was gold and crap and celica was sooo dark you lokk over your shoulder ans cannot see bugger all.

                Hi mate,

Did the police officer test the tint with a special light
meter?, they just can't say it's too dark, the rules are,
no tints on front screens, and 35% on others, try google.

                Hope this helps.

                Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

ps the light test only goes for front door windows and screen, and further back ie back window, rear doors etc can be as dark as u like

I contested a wrongly written ticket once, He put the wrong date on it. (2 days out iirc)
I got absolutely nowhere with it.

yar she had a little machine that hung over the top of the window that tested it and it failed apparently. I knew the rear windows were tinted but the front ones seemed much lighter so didn't think there'd be an issue but guess there is. So for 15 years of it's life it's been fine but now it's suddenly very dangerous

Really what wound me up is how they do it under the pretence that their doing it for the good of the community. Guess there's not much else for them to do?

i got stopped in cornwall on holiday for same thing cops just made me peel a bit off one window and let me go no fine

all you do is pick a hedge and scrape it with a key or some thing then peel away
you`ll need to clean the windows with some thing to get rid of the sticky residue i got some from halfords
hope this helps and think the po po were a bit harsh with you

How far down the window can you get with a stanley blade, is it possible to do without taking off any trim? does it look neat?

just start with the blade then grab and pull gently, kinda like removing a big sticker, tint will go just below door line ,you should easily get the whole lot off, then just clean the window, you only need to do the front doors
