Positive camber

Right at he risk of getting "take it to a specialist" i'm thinking of haveing a go at getting the camber back to somewhere near right, this prob is of corse due to the 2" BJ spacers, so been doing a little research and as i understand it the wishbones are bolted to the axel by "excentric " bolts, so by adjusting these i can make the lower wishbone extend outwards a little, if i mark the original positions with a paint line (in case i have to put em back as they were) as long as i adjust em exactly the same amount each side and front and back of the wishbone i should get it somewhere near acceptable (or at least better than it is now) i should first remove both track rod ends and of course do this adjusting with the fronts off the deck, adjusting the rods to suit i would exactly the same amount of turns to each side till they "line up" with the controll arm and idler pins, i reccon as long as i dont move the steering or the wheels and take measurements/ mark positions etc i will get it much better than it is at least untill i can afford to get it checked properly, it's done me BFG's in so before i get a new pair etc etc,
this sound "doable"?
did the pads change today, much easier than i thought i'd be, all pins/springs came out no bother and are in good nick, old pads were down to the bottom of the groove but better than i expected, nice "how to" write up in the Aus site helped a lot,

BTW I AINT LEAVEING, joined some other sites so i aint on here as much but i'm f##ked if a few "shall we say gobshites" (no offence ment) will stop me looking in and posting what i want, if the thread looks dodgy i dont read it, so not sure whats been said etc, and not interested in knowing, got enough of my own problems with mine and the wifes health and stuff,

You'll be lucky to get the tracking right enough to leave for than a couple of days, the TREs are half way (ish) between the top and bottom ball joints, so will move less than you move the bottom wishbone.

I run a lenght of rope round all four tyres, aligned with center of wheels all the way round, with a bungey joining ends to keep it tight.

Then adjust the TRE's untill you have a couple of mm gap between the back of the front tyres, and the rope, this gives to enough toe in to get it a tracking shop without destroying the front tyres or handling odd.

Bugga!! ok, so would i need to adjust both top and bottom wishbones to get the camber right then? just thinking if i can manage to get that ok it'll be cheaper to just get the tracking done
just done have the 100+ quid for a commersial place to do the lot

A ton is a damned sight cheaper than a set of decent (or even indecent) rubber !

you can leave the tops alone, if you have enough movement on bottoms to get it where you want, if you run ouit of cam, then you'll have to move the tops.

Also remember if you don't move both cams exactly the same you'll mess up the caster angle as well.

You really don't have a lot options apart from getting it set by a trustworthy alignment place if you want it all set properly. (which is another huge issue!! lol )

but its better then eating tyres.

If you really are on a budget, get a camber angle you like, carefully not altering caster much, then just get the toe in set by a tyre place (should normally only pay £30ish for that) and keep a close eye on tyre wear.

LOL Micheldever have gone down hill. The new manager of the alignemt shop told linda they can't do imports, have never done imports and besides it lifted so will be way out anyway.

she got him to call me, after a stroppy chat i finally had to threat to bring down all the aligment spec sheets they'd in the past for me on various truck to prove it before they begrudgingly set the toe for us, saying they where to busy to do a full alignment and we'd have to book it in.

The old guy in charge had a 3rd gen, and it used to be very reliable.

For what it's worth I got all my steering geometry set up by Toyota techs when I put the truck in for the steering rod recall, it's been fine since running 33's.

I wish I could find somewhere decent to get my steering alignment done. The first place I took it to they guy faffed around for 20 minutes, then asked if I had any spanners in my truck.

The second (which is supposed to be the best in the area) worked on it, took it for a test drive, handed it over to me and it was slightly better. When I rolled underneath to have a look, one track rod was screwed all the way in to its limit (no thread showing) and the other had nearly all its thread showing. That suggests to me that the pitman arm was not central to start with and they got the tracking as near as, then took £30 off me. They call themselves,"Specialists."

yeah, at least Toyota know how to do it properly. They wanted £90 to do it, and that was quiet a few years back as well.

The big problem is, when you alter the caster, it alters, up the camber and toe, when you alter the caster, it laters the camber and toe, etc....

You have to dial it in a little at a time, most tyre places, just do one, do the other, and give it back. Or like a place i took a 4Runner to, tried to adjust the cams with the car still on the ground, and rounded out the bolts where they go through the cams, and then said they can't adjust it, nothing happens when they turn the bolts. lol fools.

Thanks for the advise guys, Phil! this is exactly what i'm worried about, they bugger it up or dont do it properly and take £150 ish off ya, money i dont have not well spent!
cant believe someone calling themselves "mechanics" would try and adjust it on the ground Tony! i know nowt and even i know it's have to be off the deck,
this is why i'd like to have a go myself, cant be much worse than some of these blokes, think i'll stick it in for MOT (due soon) and if it passes (as it did last time with the camber out) i can then take my time over it,
apart from being skint i just done trust these places to do jobs properly,
dont even trust the mot!! watched the guy last time and although he passed it ok he did'nt seem to know what he was doing (youngish lad) he was more interseted in the truck and asking me questions about it,
