    hi everyone.

i currently do not have a surf, but it is what i am looking for. i have looked at a million cars and i know that i want to change mine to one of these.

is there any advice anyone can give me, in regards to what to look for? i have seen lots of them on autotrader for around the £1200 mark, which would be fine as i could trade my mx5 in and get one pretty easily.

what sorts of problems will i encounter?

and is it worth me making the change??

    thanks

      Hi, and welcome.
I'm sure if you asked that question on any site apart from a MX5 site, the answer would be to change it!

Change is as good a rest, so they say. (Gets expensive when changing wives though)

          Hello Tony,

If your getting a surf try to get the 3 Ltr Td. The 2.4 seems to have head/ gasket issues.
For £1200 you wont get a 3rd gen (late 1995 to 2002) but you should get your hands on a reasonable 2nd gen.

Stay away from high mileage 2.4 2nd gens!!!

Which ever one choose its still a toyota & it dont come tougher than that.

Anyway that link should tell you a lot more about surfs than i ever could.

Both the 2.4 and 3.0 have 'head issues' if poorly maintained.

Yeah but it seems to happen a lot more on the 2.4 & its slower & less powerful so i personally would not advise him to choose it over the 3 Ltr.

ehhhhhhhhh tony(in best sopranos voice)as above matey,2.4 is more prone to head, although 3.0's go to,but same mpg from both and 3.0 is much more powerfull

thanks everyone.. im gonna go check a few out that ive seen knocking about see if any are good enough. it just sucks having a rear wheel drive 1991 mx5 in the winter months.. that stuff has gotta get me to and from work daily..

                            so ideally i "need" a 3.0l model.
                            wish me luck.

i wish i had the same panache as fat tony from the simpsons!
