  • Transmission questions Hilux Surf 3.0TD

So I picked up this hilux on friday and I cannot describe how chuffed I am with it! However in all this excitement i compeltely forgot to test the 4x4 and 4x4L lever.
Once I brought it home I realised that the selector only has two settings (or three if you count the neutral).
Was I wrong to assume that it is RWD normally?
Because it's either that or there is no option of selecting 4x4, unless I want 4x4L?

can someone shed the light about what the button on the side of the lever does and which position corresponds to which mode please?

    thanks

I assume that You have a second gen There is a little switch on the side of the high low lever for 4wd high (note In high the truck is in rwd untill it is switched on if you put it in low it automatically goes into 4wd DO NOT USE 4WD ON THE ROAD AS THIS WILL WIND THE FRONT DIFF UP )

Ok so if the button is pressed it is in 4wd
if it isn't it's in RWD
and if it is moved to front it is in 4WD+L

      great! thanks!

P.s. I did hear a crunchin noise when turning at low speed in my car park and stopped straight away and made sure to put it in the normal mode. I take it, it does take a bit more than one metre of turning on tarmac before it gets shafted right?
