Glow plugs not heating

Ok, it's just that I only found this after the fault appeared with the glow plugs so thought that wire and terminal was the problem so reconnected them, I'll undo them again in the morning and see what happens, thank you v much, am prepared to try anything at the moment, one good thing though, the central locking now works as it didn't before (one of the reasons I was going to change the alarm), probably that fuse, am starting to think I have/had two separate problems and was trying to solve them with one answer, panic set in earlier when i couldn't figure it out but have chilled out a bit now and am starting to think about it a bit more logically.Neal

Are you assuming that as you have no amber light on the dash ,you have no glow plugs?? or have you checked that they are physically not working!!
(did you just go to the truck and it wouldn't start??)

Yes I am assuming that, I've never even seen a glow plug let alone know how to test one, i was able to start it yesterday and early this morning but when i came to move it again later on in the day there was no glow plug light on the dash, she turns over but doesn't fire.Originally posted by tintin View PostAre you assuming that as you have no amber light on the dash ,you have no glow plugs?? or have you checked that they are physically not working!!

What a kind offer, I need to get on it in the morning and try some suggestions mentioned by others first though before bothering anyone like your good self into coming over here, I really don't want to hassle anyone untill it looks like my surf is going to be nothing more than a giant paper wieght

It used to come on for approx 1.5 seconds then it goes out and about half second later there's the click which i used to think was the glow plug relay clicking off but have now learned that noise is coming from the box in the first pic + hum from the abs thingy in the second pic from post 1, I can't hear anything at all from the relay in the 3rd pic, batteries were low but I think that was more from me turning it over trying to start it.Originally posted by breakdowntruck2 View Postdef check the fuse, but tbh you should hear the relay click,u cant really miss it,also how long did your glow plug light used to come on for?mine is always less than a sec,it just blinks, thats it,also checked your battery?anywhere near flat?Neal

Probably a main power fuse of some sort. What colour are the wires either side of it?Originally posted by Shalershasker View PostDoes anyone know what a fuse marked with an E means, this is in place of the normal 10a, 15a ect???? It's the large blade type fuse btw and was coloured purple.

Ok, here's a couple of pics (hope they come out ok), it's the one's that are approximately twice the size of the little blade fuses you find behind the kick panel and the main box in the engine bay, I've had to replace it with a 5a as that's the lowest I have at the mo and the closest i could find to the thickness of the wire inside it, but if it is a 3a as Mattf suggests I'll whip back out until i can get another, don't won't to cause more grief for myself if i can help it lol.Originally posted by MattF View PostEasiest way is for him to post a pic so we can see exactly what type of fuse it is.Neal
