Tomtom - you want something simple to get you from A to B via the odd railway track, pond or dead end lane.

Garmin - you want something which will enable you to drop your bomb precisely through THAT window, not the other one.

Yeah, TomTom do the domestic market pretty well, if you want your satnav to play games, and talk in silly voices too. Garmin just get you there, no fuss.

I expect the domestic market is a tiny part of Garmin, Magellan etc business, but its the only market for TomTom, which is fine too. All the major makes get you there. Just winding you up

Have to agree with Andy I'm afraid, I use the garmin for the bike, it's also an outdoor pursuit one so has the O/S maps as well as road (and marine as well, never used that though, lol), still takes all the camera locations etc if you want.
My dad uses a tomtom and was dissapointed with it, not sure why, it seems ok to me, but that's it, it's just OK. Also when he is updating his tomtom it uses a massive amount of resources on his computer to do it for some reason, he can't do anything else while he's updating it or it slows to a crawl (it's an average 3Ghz desktop).
