Mate, you can't just go 'off-road' anytime and anywhere you see something you fancy playing around on. There are rules, laws and pure common decency and courtesy to consider.

C'mon, he's new to this game, and the rules and regs can be an impenetrable minefield.

There are rules regarding where you can and cant drive, and the implications of breaking these rules can range between having your truck crushed and being heavily fined, having rights of way closed permanently, and incurring the wrath of other, legal, green-laners.

Generally, if you want to get your truck muddy / get stuck, find a pay and play site and knock yourself out! If you want to get out in the countryside on some really picturesque and sometimes quite challenging trails, join one of the many events / weekends organised by plenty of folks on here

Wet grass can be the most difficult terrain to cross actually, particularly on a gradient. However... its flat by the look of it.

BB not to worry, we all have to start somewhere. But the lads are right, cant just decide to go offroad on land that doesnt belong to you.
Better off heading offroad with a proper 4x4 group. Might cost you a few quid but you'll get 10 times more advice than any magazine & you wont have to go knocking on doors looking for tractors.
At least you were honest enough to admit you made a mistake!

tyres down, low gear probably would have worked

lets all go for a drive across playing fields then and relay test our surfs and driving skills

Doesn't really matter mate. If the bl00dy ramblers spot you, they'll report you. Trust me, they're like that.

Someone's cage has been rattled, its actually an old overgrown path that leads up to a disused mansion. Quite a lot of people go up there with there dogs. I wasnt actually offroading Id got to the bottom of the path which was too overgrown, so i tried to turn on what I thought was level grass, it turned out to be a bog and the surf sunk about a foot in

                                Fair enough.

Where about are you? Be easier to find decent lanes if we know where you are.

EDIT - just read your profile, get in touch with Yoshie, Smiffy and co, and get yourself over to Drumclog. THEN you'll learn about offroading!
