Gen 2 0r Gen 3 ?

Hi everyone
I am looking to buy my first surf and don't know weather to go for a 2 or a 3.
Is the 3 that much different from the 2 or is it the same basic car that has been tweaked and modernised a bit.
Any help would be very welcome
