  • It's sitting in the Drive

Well I resisted and today I got the tax and tomorrow the
open road, 2 whole weeks looking at it and not being able to use it.
My new Surf awaits, well it's new to me, but as far as vehicles are
concerned, ancient history, but I am sure I will love it, warts and all.
I am now going to check out the search to find all the functions as I
do not have a handbook, Incidentally if anyone is interested in selling
a handbook for a 1991 2.4 turbo diesel surf Auto. I am interested.
    And as it's halloween
Come Hell or High Water the Surf will get through

No need for a handbook mate, all that you need is a list of filling stations and an overdraft and away you go. Enjoy.

Yes and no doubt the tank is empty so that will mean 50+ litres
for starters and I suppose 24-26mpg average, still cheaper than my 3 litre
petrol Volvo for which I dare not even imagine the fuel consumption
especially when the turbo cuts in on a good bootdown,

Ah, 24 - 26 mpg. Downhill with a strong tail wind perhaps. I have a very light right foot and perhaps 20 mpg, on a good day. Now dont get me wrong, had the old girl for over 5 years now and still have a silly grin.Or perhaps I'm just plain nuts.

Have heard that using veg oil makes it smell like a mobile fish and chip van but if it is saving you money who cares.

OK, I know all about the silly grin, My first real drive in a 4x4 yesterday. The Surf sure aint no speed merchant but could not help grinning to myself when I remembered about the 0-60mph thread as I was struggling to get her up to 60kmph. Yesterday the weather here was horrendous and it proved one thing, the old girl does not leak. In places the country roads were flooded and I found that the front end seems to be designed on a scoop because as I was going through these flooded places(admittedly a little quicker than normal)I watched what could only be described as a mini Tsunami coming at my windscreen via the bonnet. Great fun though and that did bring forth a silly grin. I'm sure I will keep her as long as she keeps going, she will be lovingly serviced and maybe a little jazzed up in places.

be aware that the air intake is right behind the n/s headlight so going through deep water at speed can cause water to get sucked through the system and you don't want that.2 of us have been lucky so far
