  • 35" tyres on a 2nd Gen 3ltr

Well if i'm going to make a comeback after a year and a bit i might as well do it in style!!!!

Has anyone got this set up on their truck? If so,how does it drive??

    I'm thinking like a 2.4 on 33's....slow but bearable!

Thanks and Hi to those that might remember me.

35's are ...well ..........hardwork .... they are impressive , go any where but economy and high speed stability are non existant so you will need to balance your requirements against the disadvantages

My experience it with a leaf sprung first gen , Rod Leach can give you far more info about second gens

        Hi Fraser.
Since Ive been dring around glorious argyll, my new one is on 31's and I reckon I'm going to stick with those. If I ever raise it it might go to 33's but definitely no more

I was perfectly content with mine..

With the prices of surfs nowadays you could easily factor in a regear if you wanted!!

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again..

Clearance would be the only real issue. You need to 'tap' back some of the inner wheel arch to gain enough space..

If you're doing lots of offroading (which.. i think you will) Then you'll want to max the lift including a 3" body lift or lower the bumpstops or reaalllly hammer the sh!t outta the arches!

It's the stability thing rod... I'm struggling to think of a straight bit of road that's mire than 1/2 a mile long here. Couple that with LOTS of going uphill, 35's are going to be a real struggle IMHO

Thats the thing Gra.. You've been around Southampton/Romsey before haven't you? Its all pretty flat! Couple of slight hills here an there but nothing that ever caused too much concern..

The thing is, One the trucks rolling.. its not too bad! Its just getting it an if you constantly need extra juice it would get boring real quick!

Mine was fairly stable.. Theres one section of road out to stockbridge way an its bouncy as sh!t in every car. Never caused me too many issues in the truck.

One thing i would say is about the brakes, They're fairly poor in a surf due to size etc.. An it was a real headache thinking about when i'd have to slam the brakes on to get the truck to stop! The Jag is a million more times relaxing because its got the power to get out of the way if need be.. an the abilty to stop dead in no time!!!

And I drove to Glasgow and back today. It's pretty flat half of the way ( the second half). I still did about 19 to the gallon though.. If I was on 33's it would have been much less... 35's... Blimey it would have been over a tankful for the 197 miles

I would be quite happy with a v8 around here rod. I drove a minor mountain yesterday, and a 2.4 would have really struggled and used loads of fuel. The 3.0 litre p1ssed it.. But if I was on bigger tires it would have struggled as well.
