  • New to hilux

    Hi all,

I got my girl friend a nice cheap VW golf deisel, for us to drive to Stockholme to collect all her belongings as she is living in the uk now, on our way home, fullyloaded up, we stopped at some old friends of mine in Demark. my mate offerd us a swap, for our tax tested, running like a dream VW, for his Greg surf that had been in a barn for a year, um, my girl friend loves it, i was looking at the leaking rad and missing airfilter and a few loose bolts, back door not working, he had put another engine in 1yr earlier and never tried it out, so any way we took a chance, and it got us and all our luggage back to england.
Now its got a new rad and airfilter and the pump has been re timed, it feels like a real bargan. In the past I ve owned 4 early landcruisers and loved them.
The only prod i have now is working out the green and orange turbo dash lites, sometimes the orange lite stays on, but the tubo seems ok. so hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.

    Regards
    dr pete

    Green and Orange???
sure the orange isn't the brake warning light?
    Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

So you drove it back to the UK with no tax, test or insurance?

Does the green light come on okay when the turbo kicks in, at around 2200 R.P.M? The orange/red light usually indicates overboost, (above 12 P.S.I or so), if I remember correctly.

          Hi Scorpion,

I did spend 2 days checking it out, then insured it through the net, then booked it in for MOT, so it went from the ferry to mot, really solid rig, passed with no probs, next day taxed it.

            Welcome along chap.

The orange turbo light indicates your truck has Stockholm Syndrome.

                Hi MattF

It starts with both lites going off, and the green lite comes on when tubo kicks in at 2200ish. after 5mins the orange lite comes on, and stays on..
The guy it came from said the tuboboost was reading 8 P.S.I.
Theres so many vacum pipes ect, I dont know where to start

We need to know what engine it has first.

Could possibly be either, I'd guess. We've no idea whether he used the same engine type as he took out either. It could be another H.R gen.

                        Thanks for the welcome guys,

The Rig is a 1990 2.4d turbo, imported in 2000, it has had another 2.4d tubo engine fitted last year, the new engine had a elec deisel pump, the guy who fitted it couldnt get his head round the wiring so he has fitted the old machanical pump back on. thats all i know about it.
Now i have no power coming from the alternator, yet it looks like a new one

Still not the correct engine type. It could be any of the following. 2LT, 2LT-II, 2LT-D, 2LT-E. Does it have a tube stamped with EFI running across the top of the rocker cover? Does it have a model stamped on the rocker cover?
