Do you believe in luck?

Apache i definatly agree with what you say, have spent most of our lives getting to the brow of said lucky hill, only to roll back down it, if people measured luck in what they financially, then they do not have much,
Hellmett, maybe you are looking at it wrong, if we measured luck, by whats happening to us my luck would be worse than yours,
We have a seriously mentally handicapped daughter, who needs everything done for her, and i mean everything, in the last year alone, her spine has collapsed at the base, pulled away from the bars put there to hold it,
pain management is hit and miss, and now she has stopped eating ,
Unlucky, maybe, but we are still here, me car starts, and the sun shines, i can come on here and talk seriously, or talk rubbish, i like to think i have some good friends on here, and that is what matters, we would all like more money, but maybe don't need it, alot of the time, luck is being in the right place at the right time, luck is about how you look at yourself and the people in your life, more importantly luck is about waking up in the morning, and being able to change the bits in your you can for the better, there sermon over,

Re
The horse race was only one small example!
Already we have Thrifty who seems to have the same s h i t luck as I have!
Ever hear the expression, "if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!"
Thifty, I feel for you mate!
I'll bet everything that went wrong for you made you think, "FFS not something else!"
What I have found is that it has started affecting my thinking!
Sometimes I will avoid making otherwise easy decisions in case my ill fortune affects the outcome!
I know this may sound absolutely mental but when you have kiddies you need to be careful.
People say that "you should count yourself lucky, you have 2 kids, a car, a house (rented) etc. etc. I do!
Recently I applied to re-enlist in the Army, got all the way to the final stage and my paperwork went missing!
Was told I had to begin all over again and guess what?
Recruiting has been put on hold because of the amount of recruits due to the recession!
Que Sera! Yet another example of bad luck!
Forgot to mention, I have been training very hard for the last 10 months so it made it even more painful!
It's things like this that get me down!
It seems to happen all the time to me!
Anyhow, my original point was, do some people have bad luck consistantly and I for one reckon that they do!
Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for what I have but it has been very hard work and very painful at times!
I know there are people far worse off than me and I admire all of them.Last edited by hellmett; 16 October 2009, 19:47.

I do think some people play "I told you so", where they contrive to have 'bad luck' so they can say "See? I told you so!".
I've never met a truly positive person who has bad luck, just like I've never met a truly negative person who has good luck.Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Hellmett, you say about the army, how do you know that luck was not, on your side that day, how many people got through and will be sent somewhere that is dangerous and some do not come back from, if you look at life in that way, then you give out negativity, which people pick up on, sometimes when it gets to much, i sit and think about, the same as you, the people who do not worry about paying bills, who have the big bank balance, sometimes with the shit that goes on in my life i could sit down and not bother getting back up, but it gets you nowhere, so i look at the positives, IF YOU LOOK HARD ENOUGH THEY ARE THERE, a greater person than i once said, what you do at one specific moment, effects ten other people, only you don't get to see it,
You are lucky, just in differant ways to other people, as we all are.www.furryfriendsinneed.com

you spend your life thinking ( STUFF) = happiness and luck, it dont .
i have sold everything i owned several times to keep my family safe .
i have gone days with nothing to eat so my family can , we have all had hard times and walk miles to work as i could not afford the bus fair, thankfully them days are long gone ,but could come back anytime .
no such thing as luck, good or bad , life just offers options and you make the best you can of the one you pick
be prepared, I am

Have you considered that the difference between you and 'lucky' people is that they don't focus on the things that went badly for them ?
I'm one of the lucky ones - my Dad died when I was 17, then I was in hospital for a month and off school for another two, I was subsequently thrown out of grammar school (scuppering my chance of going to Oxford), I got a lung disease in the mid 80's which stopped my Army career dead ......
There's loads more similar crap but I'm happy and LUCKY !
Life is too important to take seriously !
