  • Do you believe in luck?

    Hi All,

    Just curious!

How many of you believe in "Lady Luck"?

Over the last 10 years I have noticed that my brother and I seem to have the worst luck we have ever had!

One day I decided to put this to the test so I backed 11 horses in a 12 horse race, guess what won?

I swear to god, this is true!

Some people say, "you make your own luck", I don't believe this at all.

In the last 6 years I have tried 4 different career options, each one ended in disappointment that was out of my hands!

    Very hard to understand!

Ever wonder why some people seem to cruise through life with no problems or worries, some people get shafted, some people get made redundant etc.?

I definately believe that some people are more fortunate consistantly than others!

I know for a fact that if I fell into a barrel of t i t s I would come up sucking my thumb!

    What do you think?

    Gary

I'd you only measure success financially, the majority of us would be dissappointed. I'm reasonably successful with work, but extremely lucky with having superb family... I suppose it's how an individual views their luck. I'm lucky, by dint of my family, to almost certainly not be incarcerated at her msjestys pleasure. I suppose I measure my luck by looking back at the close escapes I've had, and what I have now

    good question btw
    Non intercooled nothing.

      Re

      I agree, mostly!

I suppose a measure of luck is what you "expect to happen" with what "actually happens!"

I view success differently, success is controlled entirely by your own efforts.

Luck, I believe you have no control over, it is something that you couldn't effect by any action.

My mother said to me once, "I have never seen anyone with such bad luck, get yourself to church!"

Must be apparent when my mum noticed it!

My views changed 3 or 4 years ago. I too dont measure luck by cash. It might sound cliched but I count myself lucky because I have my health, my wife and kids are healthy and well balanced, I have a roof over my head, live in a nice place and generally enjoy life.

In the past, in my previous job, I've been stressed to f*ck, seen colleagues stressed to f*ck (but buying new cars etc) and now, I dont give a monkeys about that, and I'm kind of puzzled by people I know who work all the hours god sends, but no time to enjoy their families or the 'stuff' they can afford. They seem to think it impresses - not me.

Contentment comes when you are happy with what you have.

I'm a jammy b*gger.. I always land on my feet..

Walked into all jobs i've had.. Walked into my new training program.. pretty much had cheap motoring.. got given £1600 for my first truck.. sold it for a profit.. got another sold it for a profit.. got another.. erm.. just shy of breaking even.. got a jag.. worth a lot more than i paid now.

I've successfully taught myself several instruments.. played a violin really well first time i touched one an they're suposed to be impossible to play!

I'm considered one of the best dancers at the venue i go dancing.. I get loooads of women a week come up an ask me to dance which is a great feeling being in demand!

I've always found help when i needed it..

So yeah.. I'd be a tw*t to moan about things really..

Wouldn't mind falling into a barrell of t1ts every now an then though.. even if i did come up sucking my thumb!!

One of the best lines of advice you will ever read, but very hard to follow through on. However, worth the effort of reminding yourself, like most things of true worth.

Like I said mate, only really understood that myself for the last 3 or 4 years. It came as a sort of epiphany over the period of a few weeks when I left my last job and had time to chill and take stock.

                      Life's too short.

It's liberating if you really get it straight in your head, I'm still working on it, but getting there.

Yeah, it is. I'm not 100% there, but I'm much closer than most people I know.

I used to subscribe to the 'climb the property ladder, get a new car on the drive every 3 years, care about the impression I make' mentality. These days, if there's food on the table, the family are safe and warm, and there's diesel in the truck I really dont give a shit what anyone else thinks.

Life changes drastically for the better when you get that straight in your head.

When you moving to Wales then Bri?

Anyway, to get back to O/P, try writing everything positive about your life down, as bullet points. ie.

                          1) I'm healthy
                          2) I have food

                          etc etc

Then take a look around you. The 5 year old kid braindamaged in a wheelchair, the young bloke burying his wife etc etc

Your life really aint so bad is it?

"What's for you won't go by you"

The only things you actually need are food, shelter, warmth and health, if you have those, everything else is a bonus.

Set realistic goals, then you'll see how much your 'luck' changes for the better.
