  • Oil leak and water leak update.......

Well had a few days off so began the leak finding expedition....
Removed the exhaust manifold and can now see that oil is seeping out from thr head gasket and down the side of the bell housing. Also notice a slight weep at the front of the head.

You can see at the back the oily deposits.

Then decised what the heck and removed the inlet manifold.

You can see the water leak from the nice orange colour around the flange...love that word....flange there said it again......

So off came the head and i can see the oil appears to be coming out from the rear oil way at the back of the block.
So roughtrax it is for new head gasket set and bolts.
Will check the head is flat latter as me back is killing me from leaning in over the front of the truck.

Off to Dyfryn Ardudwy for long weekend with me woman so will have to wait till next week to fix it.

I like threads like this....both for the use of a word like flange ( ) and for the informative pictures.

Informative in that if you searched and looked enough through this forum, you could probably find a picture of just about everything on a Surf.

        Thanks.

Got a feeling that when the previous owner had the head done it wasn't done right, if you read my old posts from when i got her i had all sorts of problems with dodgy gaskets and loose or missing bolts. Head gasket doesn't look like its only 10 months old and the head bolts never looked new when i bought the truck. Makes you wonder if they used new gasket and bolts when it was done. If i do it i will know its done by the book and not bodged on.
May even helicoil the rest of the exhaust stud holes as done 3 already from stripped threads caused by some numpty overtightening them to seal exhaust gasget on warped manifold.
Got me 1kzte manual and read about the additional 90degree turn on top of the usual torque, did mr numpty do that or not ???? i wonder.
Read that the number of holes in the corner of the gasket means a different thickness, now do i specify to roughtrax the number of holes or do they just send whats in the kit? Must remember to ask when i order.
Did mr numpty measure the piston rise and specify or just bung one on...
                    Hurts thinking about it.........
Need to get some more gravel fot the drive to hide the black splodges as well.

Got to take the celica to wales for the weekend so no unplanned off roading....boo hiss

Going to oil me shaft and check me flange isn't inflamed cus me spigot got bent out of shape earlier.
