I see, I had a play with the site and it is difficult to edit as you say.

The purple is the bit with the red arrows not the tabs

As said if you can't change ignore all my comments

It's a business website. At the end of the day, it shouldn't be hosted on a free? provider where one can't even alter the basics. Not being able to edit the stylesheets is pretty basic. Plus, you can only see 'this sort of thing' using different browsers when something is wrong. If it was done correctly, that wouldn't be an issue.

I'd personally get yourself a paid host Alan. You wouldn't shove a crappy advert in the local newspaper. This website may be the first thing people see regarding your business. The effort you put into the website reflects upon your business.

p.s: Regarding the Flash. Disable javascript in your browser config and you'll see what I mean. Pretty much whatever you see is Flash based.

I'll rephrase that slightly. Realised it could be construed in a different manner to how I meant it to sound. Wasn't trying to say that the website looks crappy, first off. It doesn't. How I did mean it is that if you do advertise in the local paper(?), you will have probably specified exactly how you want the advert to appear. With the website, you're having a lot of the appearance forced on you, rather than deciding how you want it to appear.

Indeed. My first post was very poorly phrased and could have been taken the completely wrong way with how it was worded.

yes i hear you, obviously because the site is hosted for free you have very little scope for change. I haven't experienced any sort of free hosting webbuilders, but they must use a CMS? As for the style sheet thing, modern browsers all have uneven levels of implementation of the CSS standards which means they are very buggy. You have to use a multitude of style sheets to work with different browsers, if not, it can cause all sorts of postion and layout strucutre issues.

I have had a few little plays with tweeking it, and i think i've gone about as far as i can with it.
Thanks to everybody for the help, i really do appreciate it.

Thanks for the clarification Matt, but ....No i dont advertise anywhere else at present.
Basically i have been sub-contracting for the past 8 years, then at xmas it all dried up and i've had to find my own work since (not easy when you have been working over twenty miles from home for the past 5 years, as you have no local client base!)
So since xmas i've probably worked about an average of 3 days a week!
Fortunately we have just about managed financially, but there is no money for advertising or the like. So for the time being it's just building a base from friends and family.
(hence the thought of a free website being too good to turn down)
Im gratefull for all your input though, and hope i can use your skills and knowledge when i come to doing a proper site from 'scratch'

                        Thanks

All the standards compliant browsers will work fine with a single, well written stylesheet. Only I.E requires the hacks to display things correctly.
