        Feckin 'ell!

Andy asked a simple question all those pages back.

Jack under diff (its one of the lowest bits) until you can get axle stands spread wide under ... well... the axle! Then its as stable as it can be.

Wood on top of jack is dangerous. The cup is too narrow and as t'other Andy said, adds a pivot and a longish moment arm.

I thought the Surf had the same shock set up as the 4Runner?
all i did was undone the bottom bolt of the shock's, jacked the car up with the tow bar as it sits in the cup of the trolly jack, put the car in first gear low box,
undone the to nut's, replaced shock's, all tightened up, all in neutral then jack down and it only took me about an hour.
My towbar is a solid steel V type with no box tubeing thats heavily bolted to the chasis
