  • Which Gen?

Which generation of surf is generally regarded as being the toughest? As in breaks down the least on/off road for whatever reason.

1st gen, if it's well maintained.

If you beef up suspension & what not then any gen is tough.

No experiance of 1st gens but i'd say 2nd & 3rd gens are about the same really.
If its not broke don't fix it.

              yea right
              youve never met me then...

              ive had 2x 2nd gens 2.4 and 3.0
              now own a 3rd gen

much better offroad with multi 4WD all have LSDiffs
fully guarded underneath and flat as a flat thing as steering rack is different to a 2nd gen and tucked up underneath
and it drives like a cadillac on road - sorry about the american reference

i have seen first gens tow out jut about every other make but they make us 1st gen owners over confidient so we try that extra bit more ........hence we have been towed by others ...........

the early first gens are a pure hilux and worth owning the later with ifs are still more capable than most others .....the 3rd gen center diff is wasted on hairdressers though

When your driving from one blue rince to the other a centre diff is essential.

admittedly I've never driven a first gen
                            but
you gotta wonder why if it was so good, why they then designed and build 2 other gens??

the 4th gen surf has even better offroad capability

                            so i presume

                            downhill decent control
                            electronic traction control
                            etc.
