Sounds like you need Adobe Acrobat.

If it was just turning pages to PDFs that can be done free, you can get software to print to a pdf file

Why are you wanting to edit them *after* converting to PDF format?

Anyway. Edit the document in whatever format it is just now, then print it to a PDF file using using CutePDF.

OpenOffice has a native PDF export feature too.

What we need it for is to produce a electronic copy of a manual , the only thing is some is in word some is already a pdf file format ,and we need to be able to edit it as the document changes but the end result is a manual in pdf format that can be sent electronicaly or put onto disc

I think thats what we are trying to doas i am confusing myself now

It is possible to export a PDF to word, but all the formatting is lost (I think!).

I have ADOBE Acrobat on my work laptop, I'll check and see what happens to a PDF when ADOBE exports it. Give me a minute or 2!
