        i have no idea

apparently, if you turn a nut that sits atop the fuel pump 1/4 turn, you get less black smoking and a bit more 'pick up'.

With a diesel engine, less fuel = leaner = less power = less heat. Slightly different to petrol engine.

I've heard of people increasing the amount of fuel by tweaking the fuel pump, but then it might be wise to keep an eye on your temperatures - which Popeye has dealt with big time! I'm sure he'll fill you in on the hows and whys when he returns.

Hi Mick, sorry for the delay, think you mean this, it's the compensator screw, there was some discussion on it a while back and i had a go and it does make a difference however more turns means more fuel and more heat as i understand it although i never noticed any marked increase in consumption or heat, the bugger always runs hot, you need to "lever" off the metal cap fitted on top revealing a screwdriver slot, mark original position with a dab of white paint (in case you want to return to the original position,) it should give an audible "click" as you turn it, i turned mine six clicks which is about quater turn, give it a try and see if it makes a difference, refit the cap
think you have the wastegate washer thing covered in the aus site tech bit

You must have heard all the hype?

The Aussies found it years ago.
The Aussies also found that if you advance the fuel pump timing you get more power. It makes sense that if the fuel is too lean that you lose power. May be the truck overfuels slightly? Considering the result is more power and less smoke.

To the OP, If you are going to modify the boost pressure, do this BEFORE you adjust the fuel pump. Technically, more boost will mean the engine requires more fuel. If you do the boost first, you can see how much different the engine feels when you lean off the pump. If it makes no difference or makes it slower then you will need to put it back.
                    Oh Nana, what's my name?

They do recommend fitting a pyro with any mods such as boost or fuelling to monitor the exhaust temps though.
