build thread (3.0 4runner tray back off roader)

I just like the look of them. No-nonsense, clean boxy lines. Same philosophy as a 2nd gen.

You're weird mate. Honestly though, I honestly think they're the most shonkily built vehicle I've ever seen. Out of all the gubbins I've got from scrapyards and suchlike to add to the vehicles, (stuff from Ford's, L.R's, Isuzu's, Peugout's, Renault's, Vauxhall's), the Cherokee was the only vehicle where I've ever thought 'sod that, it's crap quality'.

Work started a few days ago, will start a new thread as this ones gone way off subject lol hoovers and what not!? Well got a few pictures for you, been chooped, bulkhead sealed, only tacked at the minute, arches cut and welded, cage welded up but not on. Loads of other bits done, will get pictures done 2nite as I'm not at home and on blackberry

The difference between cutting half the back end off and sealing and finishing it versus cutting all the back end off and sealing and finishing it are merely degrees of the same thing. Roughly the same work but via different means and with a differing final result.

If you have the aptitude and skill to do it on a small scale, then there's no problem. The job can be ten times larger, more phaffy or whatever, but it still boils down to the same basics, concepts and skills. Take scale and specifics out of the equation.


Edit: Btw, I have totally forgot what the other vehicle design is, so I'm just working on basic premise here. Memory like a sieve.

For me.. a huge portion of the job is in finishing! Anything is possible.. only limit is an imagination an with the gift of MS paint an other peoples imagination even thats not much of a limit!

But none the less... For me at least form and function have to go hand in hand!!

Proper preparation is just as important as finish. Screw either up and the job is buggered.

I'd generally agree on form and function. Can't stand shonky looking stuff. Do it right or not at all is the motto I stick to. There are rare exceptions where function takes precedence, however.

I agree with the first chunk!! Par exampla' i had a chunk of silicone on my wall when i painted.. i didn't notice! but when i did an picked it off i now have a blue bit on my wall!

That is a great example of ballsing something right up on the preparation side!
