yep, mine was a VVTLi engine, joint venture between Toyota and Yamaha.
Extra 50 bhp @ 6200rpm, redlined @ 8000rpm. Shame it was front wheel drive though. Had a drive of my mates imported ST 205 (GT4) a while back, it's been 'chipped' to 330bhp. All wheel drive too, damn near snapped my neck when I floored it!

        lol thank you.
and its Veil Side (might be one word?). at the time the kit was unheard of in the UK. (massive in the US! im sure you know of the film fast n furious. same kit company) according to the importer i was one of a few handfull of people in the country to have one.....then around my area obviously the car got very well know (you cant miss it! lol) and lots of people started copying it. i know this because the garage that did the work got flooded with request for the same sort of thing because i had their garagaes website on the car.
i even saw about a year later some lad with the same mr2 with the same paint and even the same alloys i had! wtf lol
it used to #### me off after a acouple of months though TBH. got so fed up of people staring at me. everytime i'd stop at traffic light i knew that all eyes were on me. did my head in!
aprt from one time at some local lights near me on a dual carrige way, this Ferrari 355 pulled up next to me. some bloke with a sexy wife were in it i looked over at them only to see the wife tugging on the guys tennis sweater (lol) and pointing at my car with excitement. i could make out her words and she said something like "wow look at that car"! hahaha this obviously really ####ed the guy off in his expensive Ferrari to no end. then when the lights went green i though oh fcuk it ill floor it!.....turned out he stalled it at the lights and i left him for dust! oh it was so satisfying! i had a 20 minute drive ahead of me and i could not stop laughing to myself.

I'm aware of the film, it's about pretentious tw@ts driving crashed cars into boats, or something? I'm not a fan.

The local neds that drive cars modelled on that film get pointed and mouthed at too, but not in the way you did.

Yeah, mine was a 7th gen Celica, all previous models were rear wheel drive.
The imported GT4s were quicker than the UK cars. They had a charge cooler for the turbo with a water spray attatchment that could be activated from the dash switch.

just for the record im not a fan of that film either! nor am i into all that "cruise" rubbish. i cant stand people that do what i did. obviously i class myself as different!
well i got nothing against people modifying their cars....aslong as they are a decent car to start with and they dont turn it into a giant magnet and drive it through halfords!
i like my Jap cars and bikes. cant stand kids in their novas, xr3's etc etc. those cars are shit. spending ££££ on them WONT make them any nicer! infact they look even worse than before! lol

                    Are you SURE?

I had one a few gens before your black one - FWD.

And to the OP, I had a black Mk1 which had half the power of imported turbo MK2s but would eat them for breakfast on twisty B roads. Wish I had pics online...

thats because the turbos were renound for throwing you into a nearby field!
all that power at the rear wheels WITH the engine in the back = "oooh look the back has come out weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bang......ooooh a tree?"

the MK 1's were very perky off the mark to aswell werent they. for a 1.6 (or 1.8?) they were pretty nippy.
shame most of them are in graveyards. its always nice to see a well looked after one drive past. however rare that maybe now.
saying that ive not seen one in years!

Oops sorry, my bad. I just assumed all previous Celicas were either rear or 4wd.

                          Mine was Storm blue BTW.

I had an ST185, and an ST205. The 185 was FWD, and was 3 gens before yours. I think the last of the RWD ones was late 70s / early 80s.

A mate of mine had a Mk2 'merde' import tuned to 340bhp. It was stupidly quick in a straight line, but rubbish in corners. The Mk2 was a 'softer' hairdressers car. The proper MR2 was the Mk1, no power steering, no anti-lock brakes etc. I'd have another tomorrow if I could get a decent one. Preferably the 20v supercharged import. Like rocking horse shit unfortunately.

Weren't they Mid engined? I always thought that was what the M in MR2 was for?
