    I like cats

Not sure what the situation is in the rest of the UK but in Scotland at least cats are regarded as wild animals in the sense that they are allowed to go anywhere they like and cannot be victimised as a consequence. Simple example is that a neighbour has a legitimate complaint if a dog comes into your garden and sh1ts in your flower bed but tough cookies if it is a cat doing the same thing. You can use reasonable deterrents such as pepper dust and the some of the other products already alluded to in this thread but anything beyond that will be subject to appropriate laws. Not saying this is right or wrong. I like both cats and dogs - cats being my pet of choice owing to their relatively low maintenance (you don't have to walk them in the freezing dead of winter). In any case I'm sure most of what was said in this thread was flippant, if unintentionally tasteless, and nobody really has an inclination to see any animal suffer. Agree with the point already made that it is a bit rich of pigeon fanciers regarding cats as vermin - I'm sure 'flying rats' is a phrase a lot of us have heard before, with good reason.

I love dogs, never owned a cat but I have no real problem with them.
If they damage your property though you have a right to take it up with the owners of the cat surely.

Yes, of course you do and any reasonable cat owner would try to help - but with dogs you have a legal remedy while with cats you don't.

I couldn't advocate killing an animal for a few scratches on a car but I would want it stopped from happening again which for cat owners is something they couldn't guarantee if they allow them out of the house to roam.

This is the Mrs...I still say the best tried and true cat remedy is to go to your local grocery store but a cheap tin a cat food...mix with a couple a spoon fulls of antifreeze and sit it on your tyre.. food entices cat...antifreeze ceases function...no more cat, so you will definately have no more cat problem. I have done this many times for cats climbing on my car/ truck and it works every time! Cant stand cats so dont feel bad about it especially since I am particular about my truck!
The sh$t gets deeper ...but still swimming

cats really dont like water so just blast it with a water gun or the hose pipe.
Show me where the trench is at or can i make one!

If it was my cat I'd be happy to try some 'negative association' tricks. Most cat owners must have 'rubbed their nose in it' as part of house training. A similar technique would probably work with a car, e.g. put some pepper dust on the car and rub the cats nose in it (I'm obviously not against corporal punishment!). Over the years I've had a few problems with neighbour's pets but have always managed to sort it out with a short sharp shock tactic that stopped short of blowing the animal into smithereens (some wonderful alliteration in that sentence ). Also, I'm sure I'm not alone in that if damage to paintwork was without question down to my pet I'd feel obliged to put that right financially. Sadly, I suspect that nowadays any complaint to a neighbour about their pet is likely to result in nothing other than a fight.

you could aways tie it to a tree in its owners garden?

or get BDT to airbrush a nasty looking rot weiler on the side of your car? lol

Remember this all you 'tough guys' talking about killing cats, where theres cats theres no rats or mice.
Do you realise the rat/mouse population in your neighbourhood would go through roof without cats. Literally.
                        Think about it.

Time to finish off last nights curry. Have already wasted one pair of breeks with first half. Lets see what damage I can do to my wardrobe tonight.

If you have actually executed the acts discussed above then i reckon you have indeed commited acts of animal cruelty.
Im no hippy or animal rights activist, but the fact you would devote time & thought to developing ways of ending the lives of dumb animals because they mistakenly scratched your car is a bit sick.
Love this website, but i dont like this kinda sh*t.

Hey wasnt trying to offend here but having lived in many different places I have encoutered many a tom cat on my car/truck that have caused more than a "mistaken sratch". Scratches(all across my bonnet and roof down to the metal), fouling, etc-spent lots of £$ fixing the damage caused by them,so I found a solution to a problem. I am not a cat person and these were not someones house cats.
