can any one tell me is the spare wheel stored under the body at the back held in place solely by the wind down piece in the centre? ive been lookin round the surf im hopefully purchasing at the end of the month (2.4 td auto gen 2) and the spare is in the boot area at the mo. but the wind down mechanism does work as ive been under and checked, just wondered if it was just the centre piece that keeps it secure or is there a further strap etc ?cheers

and also what is the tilt lever on the column for what purpose and wot does it do ..?

yes, there sould be a block/plate at the end of the chain which
goes through the centre of the spare wheel, then by winding it up
to the body of the truck it keeps it secure and out of harms way
hope this is a help? cheers chris

the tilt lever is for the ajusting of the steering colume.
p.s. you will find the jack and handle for the spare under
the back seat not in the back of the cargo area

The spare is usually wound up via a wire cable. if youre getting it from a dealer ask him to sort it out
