      At least 200 times.

Think the general upshot was 'dont bother, fit a V8'

By reading the posts on v8 conversion,it sounds like a serious amount of work and money for anyone other than a mechanic with a spare v8!!Do you think that level of work is worth it if you were just road driving and not climbing big mucky hills ??

It's worth it if you can do it or afford to have it done for ya, and in my opinion better suited for road use than off road, i would'nt fancy plowing through wet shoit with a V8 petrol, too much stuff to "get wet" and pack up,
where as a deisel is fairly water proof as long as the air intake is above water,
anyway whats the point in messing witha 3lt? pretty quick anyway,

I went the other way, sold a sports car and bought a surf, must be slowing down in my young age.

                No offence but thats rubbish.
A properly prepared petrol is just as good.

It's not rubbish. As you yourself said, a properly prepared petrol engine is just as good. It does need that extra attention initially which the diesel doesn't, however. You don't need to arse about sealing distributors and suchlike on the diesel, hence that statement of Ian's would only be poppycock if comparing a diesel to a prepped petrol, not a standard petrol.

Wouldn't a Bobbox? offer any power gains then?
