was waiting for your reply. show off! lol
i got an email from a US site that ship to the UK.
comes in at £213 to your door. apart from the fitting kit which for some stupid reason they dont have on their website?? but you can get the fitting kit on ebay of all places for about £40 delivered. (?)
so thats about £250 and will take about 20 mins to fit and will allow you to have many different rack systems that usually arent available for the surf............for anyone who cares.......or is not able to carry custom work out themselves due to time, know how, tools or space like me.

oh that comment. it wasnt meant to be taken as harshly as it may have sounded. was hoping that people were starting to get a feel for my tone/humour. plus i didnt actually think he was being totally serious. i know BDT loves things new and shiny, so natually assumed he wouldnt have used that which was probably why i was a bit blunt.Originally posted by yoshie View PostFair enough point taken, my polite comment was at the "but that will look shit" comment
i didnt take offence to his "phuq you" comment.....i just assumed he was acting the same as me.
sorry if you felt differently BDT. ?
i love you really. especially your shiny pipes.

Thats because you can't bolt anything substantial like a full roof cage/rack to the roof of a Surf any way else!Originally posted by goodcat View Post.............................. .. i couldnt find one post where someone had suggested instead of droping the roof liner down..........
Jay.
Why you no rissen???
Copydex or Blue-tack just wouldn't be strong enough. And as for a 'factory fit look', how are you going to achieve that if no Surf or 4Runner left the factory with full length racks on them?
It seems to me like you need a Mercedes Sprinter, not a 4x4.
p.s. Have a look on Barryboys.co.uk for some money saving, fabrication techniques.

Aye mate! same as that, the times i've "gone into detail" replying only to hear f##kall after, not even a cheers mate, kiss my arse or owt,Originally posted by blackpoolsparks View PostIll drive naked at the next Surf outing if you ever fit a roof track, rack or whatever to your surf.
seen it a million times before
3000 posts and then nothing
theres no easy way to fit a sturdy rack (especially for off road) without actually bolting it THROUGH the roof, pop rivited channel will not be strong enough and i would'nt trust rivnuts, ya need a decent backplate on each fitting,Too young to die and too old to give a toss

I would have thought that the system Bundubasher and myself have on (roof rails gripping the tops of the door openings and free float rails at the back with a bit of ply covering them) are pretty strong. Bundu has had roof tents, fuel cans and (perish the thought) spares up there and been on roads around Africa.Originally posted by POPEYE View Posttheres no easy way to fit a sturdy rack (especially for off road) without actually bolting it THROUGH the roof, pop rivited channel will not be strong enough and i would'nt trust rivnuts, ya need a decent backplate on each fitting,
Only weaknessess I would see are a) if you were reversing through heavy overhead foliage you could cacth the free floated back and lift it (but there are ways around this of making the back a bit more 'attached' and b) it looks a bit crap to say the least.
Works though

It would seem strong enough. It's must be one of the few parts of the vehicle which BB never managed to destroy and had to replace.Originally posted by biosurf View PostI would have thought that the system Bundubasher and myself have on (roof rails gripping the tops of the door openings and free float rails at the back with a bit of ply covering them) are pretty strong. If I remember correctly, there were a few full length roof racks that came across from Japan. These mounted like the Thule roof bars on the front and rear doors, had resting feet at the back and then bolted onto the rear wiper mechanisum (somehow). It's been a good few years since I last saw any mention of anything like this, so I resurve the right to be talking complete twaddle.Originally posted by biosurf View PostI would have thought that the system Bundubasher and myself have on (roof rails gripping the tops of the door openings and free float rails at the back with a bit of ply covering them) are pretty strong. I think you're right, I seem to remember something along thosae lines and was planningto look into attaching the back of mine the the rear wiper mech.Originally posted by Maverick View PostIf I remember correctly, there were a few full length roof racks that came across from Japan. Either that or sticking a couple of dirty great aerial mag mounts on the back on bolting into them
