  • What was your very first car?

My first car way back when, was a mini clubman estate, a horrible sand colour that I regreted buying within days.
Second car was great but that mini was a mare.

    What was yours?

My first car was a mini too, rally prepped 1300 turbo engine, alloys, single bucket seat, fire extinguisher and roll cage - dad bought me it when I was 13 for driving round the carpark/schoolfield where he was caretaker.

My first on road car was a 1989 VW polo (not much else to say about that........it was electric blue though, My mates used to say it looked like one of those big blue cleanaway skips!!! )

I used to drive my brother's VW Golf when I first came to the UK but it was just on loan so it doesn't count.

Cars I've personally owned and driven for at least a while.

'90 Surf SSR Ltd - bought 1995 Philippines and I still have it
'96 Jeep Cherokee LTD - bought new in UK - stolen after RTA 07/99
'89 Surf SSR Ltd - UK bought in '99 - still owned by me but now in Philippines
'98 Prado GX owned from 09/99-03/04 - sold after engine failed
'87 Hilux pickup - UK bought 03/00 - bought to play off-road but I rolled it 3 weeks later.
          '88 Supra MK3 - UK bought in 04/02 - still have it
'89 Surf SSR Ltd - UK bought in 10/03 - still have it
'90 Hilux pickup - UK bought 01/04 - still have it

Mine was a rust holed Fiat 127 called Dobbin by the kids coz it was donkey. I bought it for £50 and sold it for £55 4 months later. I then got a VX490 2300 SE and felt like I owned the road in that beast and had to trade that in for an old Hillman Hunter as it cost me an arm an a leg to run....oh the good 'ol days.

My first car was Triumph Toledo 1300 and was burgundy. A real Grandads car until, just after my 25th birthday (just when insurance was due to get cheaper) I blew the engine up. We found a Dolomite Sprint that had rolled onto its roof and fitted the engine and all the running gear to the Toledo. I kept the 1300 badge on the back and had huge fun blowing away the cortina GT boys. Happy days. It used to attract a lot of attention from the boys in blue as it, "didn't sound like a 1300."

Now there's unusual - not many did that

My first car was a 1968 Mk2 Cortina 1600 that I sold to my mum for 10p and was still going strong 3 years later with well over a 100k on the clock. They don't make em like that any more (and nostalgia ain't what it used to be either).

MK1 Cortina Estate - Very rare 1500GT model with a huge fold back sunroof.

That was about the time I began to dislike car parts storesmen! 'They didnt do a GT estate blahblahblah'. It was part of an order to Africa that were going to be police cars that got cancelled. Wish I still had it now, I only ever saw 1 other! (we started our first son in the back of that car)

Ford Taunus 17M, two tone red over white, bench front seat, column change, bought by me in 1970 but was probably built about 1960. Very reliable but died from under body rot after a year.

Not so sure i want to embarass myself but i will get into the spirit of things:
My first car was an '81 Austin Allegro 1500 maxi estate, although the only place i ever got to drive it was to the scrap yard cos by the time i passed my test the gearbox had packed up!
                            This was quickly followed by a '85 205 1.6 GTi(awesome-shame i couldnt afford to insure it), then a '82 mini metro(in gold-yes it was horrible), then a '85 fiesta, then a '75 Triumph spitfire(which was awesome),then a '92 rover 828 sterling(which blew up), then a '95 toyota carina E and now the Surf!
