Well, I'd talked myself out of replacing the damper by late afternoon, but judging from the replies it looks like I'm gonna be changing it now. Making the steering less sensitive to deviations is the main part I'm after, and it does sound like it'll sort that out.

Just to double check on the track rod ends, they are pre-greased, are they not? They don't need any prep'ing or suchlike before being fitted?

Igot my TRE's from milners and although they are pre greased they do also have grease nipples so you can grease away at your leisure

Mine weren't, so it would be worth checking.

I would stick a bit extra in anyway, can't do any harm.

and no my damper looks a bit manky now, still works a treat though.

They will be pre lubricated, even the ones with grease nipples will have been done at the factory. They won't be packed with grease though.

Just noticed Duane's reply. I've never seen an ungreased TRE (or Balljoint) but they seem to exist.

Like Alan said, more grease won't do any harm.

Cheers chaps. I'll slip the clips off and give them an extra dose then.

Just been looking at them and another question, (or two). The inners have a grub screw on the rear of the housing. Will that be a blanking plug for a nipple fitting? Outers don't have that grub screw, so....., what's the best method to get one of the spring clips off without damaging the boot?

Yep, the grub screw can be replaced with a grease nipple. Is the clip holdong the boot one of the really tight circular spring things? If so, it should roll off downwards (away from the taper). The one without the nipple should be OK for grease though, I'd be surprised if it's dry.

I fitted one the other day, outer had the grease nipple.

you sure you have the right end?

Aye, it's one of those. Best to leave that one alone then?

Yup, for a change. Outers, (the short ones), no grub screw. Inners, (the long ones), have the grub screw.
