Why is it that even though I have the latest media player, quick, flash media etc every ?????? video I try to download won't play. They all say they don't recognise the media

I remember when I lived in the UAE, the locals used to try this quite a lot - I think even when Clarkson went to Duabi they did a piece about it. Mainly used to be the Landcruisers they used to do it in. Think someone did the whole of the developed part of Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai (about 1 1/2 miles).
They are all completely mad and have much too much money to care if they trash the motors.
