the 1.4TSI is a supercharged turbo engine, making 167hp and okay-ish mileage figures of combined being at 44mpg.
nissan made a micra (well it was called a nissan march as it was only released in japan) with a supercharged and a turbo. this was called a march super turbo. engine size was 1.0, not sure about power figures but the one i drove was stupidly quick.
i think supercharged turbo engines are the way forward (or the mid way forward before hydrogen at least) for having decent small engine cars!
the only other time i have known about dual compressors are with diesel engines. big truck engine manufacturers use 2-stroke diesel engines. they are turbo charged and apparently will just not run without the addition of a supercharger.
