Has anyone bought office xp from internet emails floating about advertising it at $60 or is it just a scam to get your money?
Thanks Philip
Haven't seen these emails, but you know the story, if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Certainly there is no way anybody could legitimatly sell a new copy of office xp for as little as $60.
the student versions of office are much cheaper for exactly the same thing... all you get is an empty bow with a slip of paper that you have to send off with your receipt and proof of being eligable (student, teacher etc.) then mr gates sends you a copy!... could be some sort of scam like that?... so you just get an empty box that you can't do anything with!.

There is also a scam where you get sent a copy of the corporate edition of XP Professional, but the licence key is known my Micro$oft to be fraudulent and activation will be blocked.

Most times when purchasing an educational version of mr gates software these days the only difference is the box, you no longer have to mail in proof of status, the shop should check your status before handing over what is the normal retail product with different printing on the box.
Many shops don't exactly check your status properly.... Are you a student or teacher sir? err yea, There you go sir, that will be slightly less than the normal rip-off. Whoooosh, take it and run
A good free alternative to Office XP is Open office, its backed by Sun, it will open all Office documents, the only component it doesn't have is a mail client (Outlook) though you can install thunderdird from Mozilla.
