  • wheel advice

    morning folks.
ive got a set of 16" (maybe) deerfield wheels on my 2nd gen. i got a flat yesterday so swapped out for my spare. i checked the flat when i got home and it appears to be leaking from the centre of the rim.

looking at the wheel i can see some sort of black sealant. im guessing these are split rims but i cant be sure as i cant find any info anywhere on the model.

can anyone offer any suggestions such as can i get the wheel repaired etc?

    many thanks.

id get the tyre removed, then split the wheel yourself..clean all the crap off then look for any obvious signs of where it could be leaking, corrosion, split etc.

clean it up with wet and dry, re-seal then get your tyre put back..doddle

Have a chat to Popeye as he strip his split rims down etc so he will know the best way to sort it out

i think they are the same style as popeye's but his are red i think.I'll see if i can find the thread or do a search on popeye and look at his threads from when he was doing his truck up as he said about the wheels then

Looking at the pic i would say someone has had probs with that wheel before if that is a sealant around it as they haven't cleaned it off very well

yeah your probably right, it does look like theyve been done before. not very well i might add. i might nip to a tyre place after lunch and get the rubber removed so i can have a look see myself.

ive put a thread up in the wanted section as im looking for a spare set of wheels anyway.

Aye! they look the same as my spare (mad blade spoked), it's easy to seal. just get the tyre removed, chizle/cut off the old sealant from inside the rim and clean it up, wire brush etc, degrease it properly and apply a good mastic over the joint with a spatula or body filler plastic spreader, Sika sealant is fine, or a good industrial expansion joint sealer

some "specialist firm" quoted me 50 quid a wheel to reseal em!!! f##k that

With these split rims, is it possible to remove tyre yourself by splitting rim first - LETTING ALL AIR OUT OF TYRE FIRST AND REMOVING VALVE, then the rim halves will seperate leaving your tyre?
Just a thought to save a few quid in removal and the possiblity of mr tyre fitter scratching the alloy.

ok so i had a go at the wheel tonight. they are definitley spilt rims. theres a handful of snapped studs.
any ideas where to get replacements?

ive removed all the snapped pieces and the rest of the studs and nuts.

i didnt manage to seperate the two halves but ill give it another go over the weekend.

as an aside im quite surprised how light these wheels are even with the rubber on them. i expected them to be much heavier.
