There's a chap round here with a rather nice lifted SWB Defender pickup. Haven't seen it for a while so I stopped by when I saw him pottering round his garden this morning.
He was telling me that he'd broke the rear diff on a climb down south Wales. Said he'd got 3/4 the way up then the truck started bouncing so he gave it a bit more gas - when there was a loud bang and grinding sounds from the back end. He then described pretty much exactly your favorite hill where you destroyed the Surf's steering.
