Mystery part??????

Found bolted to Lickit's crossmember, other side to the t/case skid plate.

square bit goes up in side the crossmember, then does nothing!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas?


looks like a broken off stud out the top, but looks painted.

I've got the same. Dont know why, its right below the exhaust though, maybe on runners the exhaust goes down the RHS and the skid plate would bolt to this hole. That doesnt explain why they decided to stick the square rubber looking thing on there, maybe they were gonna prop the zaust but the zaust prop lad was off sick for a few days and no-one knew anything bout it, just like they forgot to fit 2 of the 10 body/frame mounts to the frame on 3rd gens - dont believe me?

I reckon it's an early warning crunch device. When you hear this bit scrape on the ground, you would be a fool to try and drive any further. ( From one who had to be rocked off a hump cos none of the wheels would touch the ground!).

I had one on my truck until tonight, Tony's been round and got grinder with drawal syptons. Got me 9" grinder out and now its gone, I dont mind to much but he only came round for a kebab.
Gonna park it up the road next time.

Flipping cheek! no mention of sorting your trucks diff till past 21:00! or why we (thats WE, not I!!) were playing with the grinder.

Pulse Sensor

The item in question is a Pulse Sensor. It picks up the movement of the exhaust gas flow. Eg: 2000 x 4 = 2000 Rpm. 4 pulses to the revoloution in the case of the four cylinder models. In the square rubber are two carbon poles with a mica disc between them that sends the frequence reading to the Ecu. It's to assist the fule timing. The Aussie's have a mod to fool this piece of equipment so that it pushes more fuel into the injection system giving a better performance. Some say it did not work. Mabe thats why its not present on all our Surfs. ???????
