The Aussie's have a mod to fool this piece of equipment so that it pushes more fuel into the injection system giving a better performance. Some say it did not work. Mabe thats why its not present on all our Surfs. ???????

Hope this clears up the mystery.

                    Geoff.
Good theory, but why is fitted on non-EFI Surfs like our Grey one, Koi's and Jim's.

Just counting the pulses won't help it run better, a O2 sensor does as it reads the exhaust gasses and adjusts the mixture to suit.. All this is good for is a Rev counter as far as I can see.

I can see how this would work , but I think it would need to pass through a 3mm carbon filter to help . If not , a blocking diode going round the speedo cable and then back up to the aeriel might help , or am I the only one thinking this ?

                          Probably!

Still begs the question... why bother counting the exhaust pulses, any miss fire or rough running, which most motors do when reving high, would leave you messed up.

Fueling measurements need to be measuring emissions compared to throttle position and intake pressure. And it can't measure emissions though a exhuast pipe, and inside the crossmember.

(PS whats the carbon filter for? or you talking about the O2 sensor)

It dose not measure Emissions it measures PULSES. As for the backfire's I would suspect that the ECU would take care of that in it's usual way and put the turbo into safe mode.

No there are no wires on this as the Mica disc oscillates between the two pieces of carbon setting up electronic frequences a bit like the old crystal set.
