By choice, I'd fold the edges up the same as the side of the crossmember, and weld a gusset across each edge but as we struggled to bend the end up, decided not to till I got a press in the workshop, plus can't weld ally at the moment.

I put the trolley jack under the end bit, and vertually lifted the whole truck off the ground to bend the back bit up, so its plenty strong!!!

The bolts need replacing with countersunk Allen bolts, but I didn't have any.

Any time you fancy a change of climate Tony - you can get plenty of work back home. I know lots of people who like to do that sort of thing to Toyotas but with Cerproİ armour plate

Yep they love to help - nothing like a soggy tennis ball dumped on your stomach, or a wet tongue on your neck when you're stuck under a car!!!

layed a strong bar of metal on the top of the ally plate, where the fold wanted to be, then clamped it up to chassis with blocks so its tight.

Then another bar balenced on the trolley jack, about half way between the fold and the end of the plate.

Then, pumped the jack! and hope the plate bends before the truck lifts up.

It did, but only just! thats as far as it would bend with 2 ton of Surf resting on it! A bit higher would have been nice, but it'll do.

easy - just take it down to the new council offices and try and do what the skateboarders are doing

as it goes i recon about 30kg at max and that peice of 6mm alloy plate cost just £40 from a metal workers oppesit where i work so all in all a nice cheap mod now we have a template to work from now just need to save and get alloy bash plate for the sump
