I ran out of fuel in my truck a year or so ago!! on top of the fuel filter there is a little black plunger that you can pump to draw the fuel through. So I would have though that you remove the fuel filter put new one in then take off the out going fuel pipe and pump till the fuel come out of this then reconnect and off you go.

It's easy enough, first on the bottom there is a plastic moisture drain, you can drain off the fuel in the filter, then remove the old one, unclip the sensor cable to the drain off and refit the sensor/drain to the new filter, fill it with fuel and screw it on, thats about it, you should have no probe starting and if it does die then as said, pump the plunger on top, it will eventually run ok and clear, even i had no trouble doing it dont forget to check the auto trans fluid (assumeing you have an auto truck)
Forgot, you'll get a new sensor "o" ring with the new filterToo young to die and too old to give a toss
