If they were made a minimum of 'x' pixels high then it would all fit on surly?
The height of a post even with one word is limited to a certain size because of the stuff on the left!! <--
So if it was small its not a problem right?!
On elite4x4 they have banners an in truth! only a small amount of people use them!!
I personally dont see the problem!
But then i'm too young to be grumpy an miserable about everything!

Just proving a point for no real reason really...
But cheers for the heads up on the site Bushwhacker! t'is cool.
I took that from another site that i visit.. no prizes for working it out!
Either way, It was two lines of text with a whole space in the middle.. which i tend to do!
Anyway.. As you can see, it doesnt affect the length of my post because all the stuff on the side!

Banners in the signature may not be a problem if they were restricted to a certain height. The thing is some people would take the p!ss and have half page banner sigs, we all know that for a fact. Then there are the people who insist on quoting a post for no reason, which would surely repost a large banner again.
Some of us have our avatars, which come as a benefit from paying our subs. If you allow banners etc I believe even less people will cough up any money as they will be able to have their posts personalised in a banner.
Just my thoughts on the subject, open for discussion.'Tis better to sting than to be stung!

In my opinion...
restricting them to a certain height would be fine. As you can see from my post above with the picture. I added a banner an its not made the physical size of my post 'box' thing.. any bigger! Its just filled in the blank gap.
I definatly think they need to be limited to size.. It would be stupid to have monster banners.
As for the if they have banners they may be less swayed to pay there subs.
Well, Could it be possible to have a certain tab that only opens up once you subscribe. Same as the option for a custom avatar. But just have it for a sig instead?
I doubt anyone pays there subs to have a custom avatar. The money should be donated because they found useful information on a site.. nothing more in my opinion.
An as i already said.. how many would use it?! Hardly any.. I know its more work for lucky/koi etc but it would be nice to have them.

The issue certainly doesn't seem to be one of space on the page though, it's already here in abundance.
Custom avatars seem to be in the region of 100 pixels in height, in themselves they are longer than a lot of the posts- this is before you consider the space used by location, vehicle and post count information.
In effect a single page can contain 1000 pixels of excess length already- forced by the avatars alone, represented as dead space after posts. Brightening this inevitable dead space up a bit shouldn't have a detrimental effect overall.
I would suggest the easy solution is to allow those who pay their subs to have a signature image limited to a maximum height of 70 pixels, this would make little difference to page length since these users already create plenty of dead space on the page due to their avatars.
This height would also limit the style of image to more of a user bar than artwork. Potentially the site could exploit this by offering to host such images so long as they feature the url, then you just have to encourage the users to use the image in their sigs on other sites and you have free passive adverts dotted around on other relevant forums.
These users have also been around long enough to know not to place advertising in signatures which should remove that issue from the discussion.
A width limit should also be used and the image format limited to JPEG as to avoid animated images that would be distracting, also make it either or, an image or four lines of text, not both.
That's my thinkings anyway.www.thegamingunion.co.uk

Originally posted by MattF View PostTrue, but in the past when it was allowed, the size was never limited, hence sometimes you could spend ages scrolling a page just because some nob thought it was amusing to add a massive signature image.
Things have moved on a bit in vbulletin since then though, a great deal more control is available and it is easier to set up.
I cant remember whether 3.6.x has the signature size options, certainly its standard in 3.8.x for uploaded signatures. For external sigs you do still need a plug in (off hand) but its fairly old and tested now, http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=137167 works on up to 3.8.2 apparently but i cant see that 3.8.3 has anything that would effect it.
I don't quite get why the site uses an older version of vbulletin, the plug in system on the newer versions is improved. Its a far nicer place to play.
Although i suppose thats all somewhat irrelevant as no one seems brave enough to even edit the templates to add a custom copyright text.
It is also worth pointing out that the yotasurf domain has expired yet the technical articles section points people to it.
The place could use a little TLCLast edited by sam; 17 June 2009, 00:30.www.thegamingunion.co.uk
