Rim Widths J Vs JJ

Okay I'm almost an alloy rim guru owing to the length of time I've been looking for some!

I've read some interesting items, such as some people fitting 35x12.5x15 tyres on 7J rims! (I didn't think that was possible?)

One thing that I can't figure out is the difference between 7J and 7JJ rims. The only thing I can assume is that JJ has a higher flange on the rim than J?
If this is the case would it be wise to fit 33x12.5x15 tyres to a 7JJx15 rim, or is it still a no no?

depends if you can get a tyre fitter to do it,most of them will say no they cant do it.

Just a thought. I've waited long enough now, I may as well wait a little longer until I find the elusive 8J rim. Knowing my luck I'd manage to squeeze the tyres on to 7J rims only for 8J's to pop up next day in the For Sale section!

I can only refer you to this post, have a read of the bible and see if you can make sense of it. It would appear that the "J" refers to the shape of the rim

Just as a point if information I have my 33x12.5x15 Kumhos on pajero rims which are either 7j or jj can't remember which. I had every intention of getting 10" rims but the paj alloys came with the tyres.

Although I do intend to get 10" rims when I can find some that aren't silly money I have been running the 33's on these for months now including some fairly heavy offroading and no problems thus far.

I would be less inclined to air the tyres down very much though.

I'm not sure if this is fact, but I read somewhere that a JJ bead profile is better than a J profile on 4WDs, because the tyres are less likely to come of the rim in situations such as sand driving, where the tyres are aired down to fairly low pressures.
