  • Easy or not so easy

Hi lads some advice needed please. I have been offered a rear spoiler for my 2.4 its an Original Toyota one with all the fixings etc but its the wrong colour as my Surfs Dark Grey and the Spoiler is Dark Blue but as these are hard to get hold of what are the Chances of painting it the right colour? Anybody tried it? is it easy or difficult to do? Bearing in mind I am not the best painter in the world. Thanks in advance.

Easy enough i did mine, it was green and needed it grey, just get an aerosol can made up from you vin no by your local paint shop, give it a good flatting down with 1200 grade, a good cllean off with panel wipe, a lt from the same paint shop, and spray several light coats, let it dry and then several coats of clear laq also from the paint shop, if you have a comp you could get a lt of colour made up and alt of single pack laq, use it straight out the tin, no thinning, fitting's ok, i have some pic's of where to drill if ya need em

Here's some of em, once you got the inner roof center trim off (it just pulls off but be carefull not to break the plastic studs) you can see the holes are already in the double skin, just run a small drill from the inside and do a rough check against the studs in the spoiler, satisfied that the'll line up stick masking tape over the four holes and drill to enlarge the holes, test fit it and take note where the wireing grommet fits, remove it and you'll see another larger hole in the double skin for the grommet, do the same again, small drill from the inside then enlarge to suit the grommet, dab of underseal or paint around the holes and bolt it on, the wireing connector's already in there (white one in the first pic, but double check with a test light, and thats about it, a small socket on the fixeing nuts saves ya dropping the buggers into the double skin, good luck with the spraying, remember thin coats or it'll run (like mine did)

Your welcome mate, take it easy and you'll be fine, drilling the first hole in your pride and joy is a bum clencher but long as ya tape it up it'll be ok
