It doesn't *have* to be that way. However, until people take blame for their own mistakes, and accept the consequences of their own actions knowingly and willingly, things will never change.

Most people being what they are, however, I doubt it will ever change.

There are quite a few people who had no part in the nonsense that has caused all this trouble, and are quietly resigned to helping pay for it. (It's not as though we have any choice after all...)
What would the panel think of a horrendously over the top tax on anyone who self certified themselves a huge mortgage, and those who got up to their necks in buy to let?
