Agreed. I am in a priviledged position. Doesn't mean I haven't worked hard to fit in & integrate. Which some don't do.

And I count the career politicians in that. The nice fat gravey train.

(I see the Politicians have just given themselves a £200 a day bonus if they turn up to westminster instead of having to submit 2nd home forms and expenses .. nice .. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...don-Brown.html )

Your average immigrant only wants a better life for his family, the problem is for every good one there are 4 or more who just want everything they can get for nothing.I used to do haulage a while ago and our main destination was Romania Bulgaria and points beyond, most people had the same idea about westerners, ie your rich and have everything, and rumours from people who had made it to UK, that they give you a house and money. Hearing this most people with nothing will try anything to get that life. We used to stop about 3 ks from Calais to fill up, and they would offer money and all sorts to get you to smuggle them in, had to check the truck and you would find them hanging under the trailer on the spoilers above the cab, desperate people will do desparete things, so will criminals and takers. Untill the UK says enough is enough and forcibly removes the takers rather than countless appeals etc then nothing will change. I gave up work to help my wife care for our daughter because there were no facilities available to help, our choice was sit on income support or try and improve life in other ways, i have always worked, so find it hard to not do anything, i am only 44 but have good reason for not working, we choose to move where what money we have goes a lot further, i do abit of real estate agency selling and we get by. Incidently we are not eligible for any benifits because i choose to stop work, although my daughter needs 24 hour care and no options were available, according to the social we should put her into care, sorry but shes my daughter and our responsibilty, not some oik from Nigeria who just wants to do nothing and get paid for it. Untill you get a strong goverment who will stand up for the normal people, then nothing will change, so for all those who do not vote, think again, it can only change if enough people want it to.

I totally agree .. but when you either have the blue/red/yellow shites that are selfserving, get yerself on the gravy train and do nothing for the people of this country (but they say they are) .. or the absolute nutters like the greens and bnp who will have you walking for your 2 weeks in Spain, or if you are "dusky", shot on sight ..

This thread is getting too serious and too boring - if you've REALLY had enough then leave. If you can't or won't leave then try doing something to change things !

I reckon it's time for a new political party .......

The Surf Party - anybody care to make some suggestions for:

              1. The Manifesto

              2. Party Officers

Life is too important to take seriously !

                Manafesto :

Tax : Flat rate no matter what you earn. You earned it, you keep it.

Pension/Unemployment : You can only claim back what you've paid in.
Exceptions/government jobs for *proper* sickness disability.

Crime : Like for like and zero tollerance. Start with littering and fag butts.

Government : Streamline it. Cut targets and multi levels of managers. House parliment in the Olimpic Village after 2012, give the members a room and basic costs for public transport. Wages should be comparable to "management" wages. Also, do we need such complex DVLA, DSS etc systems. Simpler = cheaper.

Transport : Make it a cheaper alternative, instead of trying to price people out of their cars. Rox tax scrapped, add it to petrol. Drive more = pay more.

Europe : Get out of it. Become the middle man between NAFTA/Commonwealth and Europe.

Economy : Stop the reliance on a 3rd teir (value added services) economy. We can't be 1st teir as we don't have many resources, so 2nd teir is making stuff. Fire up the manufacturing plants.

I would want the job tile of "Right honerable honest bloke" or something.

Do you mean the same percentage or the same rate?

Pension/Unemployment : You can only claim back what you've paid in.

You may as well not have it at all, just put it in the bank

Exceptions/government jobs for *proper* sickness disability.

How do assess proper? They think they do already

Crime : Like for like and zero tollerance. Start with littering and fag butts.

What do you mean like for like? Who's paying for all these extra coppers?

Government : Streamline it. Cut targets and multi levels of managers. Also, do we need such complex DVLA, DSS etc systems. Simpler = cheaper.

I kind of agree, but why move Parliament? Wages are already comparable to management wages

Transport : Make it a cheaper alternative, instead of trying to price people out of their cars. Rox tax scrapped, add it to petrol. Drive more = pay more.

I agree with the road tax bit. Personally, I think people should be taxed out of their cars and the money put into public transport and car clubs

Europe : Get out of it. Become the middle man between NAFTA/Commonwealth and Europe.

I'm a big advocate of trading with the Commonwealth, America can go f itself. I'm not too worried about Europe though

Economy : Stop the reliance on a 3rd teir (value added services) economy. We can't be 1st teir as we don't have many resources, so 2nd teir is making stuff. Fire up the manufacturing plants.

I don't think we have enough space for manufacturing and the developing world will always have cheaper labour

I would want the job tile of "Right honerable honest bloke" or something.

Damn you with your valid arguments !! It's just my thinking.

I think flat rate (fixed %age) tax would make things simpler.
No NI, 30% income tax, 25% corporation tax, 20% vat on everything.

The government should then put some of this in a "bank account" for you. This can then be drip fed back to you as pension/unemployment .. if you snuff it early the government make a profit. This would force people to save for a rainy day.

I think people are milking the "sickness" a little. Able bodied people should work for their money back. Companies could pay the government for access to this cheap labour force.

Move the residences for Parliment. Cut expences, 2nd home allowances/ 2nd home security etc. Have them all living in one place, with minimal fuss. There should also be a maximum time limit to their stay, and should have a minium time in other experience before apointment (kinda like the minimum age and maximum number of terms for the US president). I think career politicians are one of the main problems - working for themselves, not the people.

Exra coppers can be paid for out of the massive job losses in public sector that I'd sweep through . For example, the scrapping of the road tax, all those staff in the DVLA could become coppers . My clearing out of all the bloated councils, think tanks, and quangos would help too.

I'm no fan of the US, but if we could act as a go between (language one side, geography for the other) and scrape .00001% in comission on stuff traded between US/Commonwealth and Europe. We'd be laughing.

Manufacturing? Need to invest in specialist high end stuff. As a petrol head, we have companies like McLaren, Prodrive, Williams etc. What if they could actually make a good eletric car as an example? Rovers for the boggo stuff, Lotus for the sporty stuff and Aston for the luxuary stuff. The UK is still a very high end, knowledgeable place with a lot of specialist skills.

I'm sure there are good reasons this kinda stuff doesn't happen. Mainly, that people would look at my ideas and think "oh crap, I'd be out of a job" so I'd get no votes.

But I've an idea for that too .. Write a great manifesto and then don't stick to it .. but that's not my idea, it's been done loads of times

It makes some interesting reading this thread..
As most of you know I am a foreign tw@t living in the UK..
If I had the choice I would maybe not be here any more for many of the reasons that have been named.

But lets be honest it is not as bad as it sounds really..

I am from Holland and u know what taxes and living expenses are higher there than here..
The surf road tax.. £185 for the year in the UK €544 per 3 months in Holland.
I have lived in a few places in Europe and when u actually live and work there (like been said before) it's all the same.
You never earn enough and you pay to much tax, to many foreigners take and don't give anything back etc....
I lived in Australia for 2 years and yes I loved it but Aussie is "Europenising" too so not exactly the promised land any more... (saying that I would love to go back as I only left because my ex wife wanted too)

I don't know, I think that although England is deteriorating it's not that bad, I say every day that I am going to leave but I am still here.
Most European country's are experiencing a similar downwards spiral.
Life is what u make of it and spending time with friends creates lifelong memories regardless of what you are surrounded by..

anyway I will shut up now.....
One day at the time I guess..

That's the important part. You could pave the streets of England with gold, (or soak it in beer for the Scot's), but 99.5% of people will never be content with their lot.

I would just like to pint out a few related points:

                                1. My "hmmmmmm" in my previous post was a "hmmmmm" in the negative sense...the taste of this deep fried mars bar was on par with gargling liquid fart.
