    went to the lakes thurday to meet up with my dad and mum from liverpool truck was grate on motoway got there and my dads car was broke hade to tow caravan back for him but my truck was overheating towing but fine when not dose anyone have any idears it is a 1992 surf 2.4 auto thanks john

    Was it a big van ?

    If so and you plan on towing it some more you might want to get an oil cooler - the rad shares colling for both the engine and the gearbox.

    With the autobox working harder with the towing it heats up the coolant in the rad.

    Search for oil cooler and you will see more on this.

      Also change your driving style when towing. Dont put your foot down as this wont help (OVERHEAT) Use ECT ON as it will stay in gear longer before changing up. Make use of the O/D button also. Ive never had Overheating issues when towing. This was a 2.4 Surf!

        also if you off road make sure the rad is clear of mud etc!!! DO NOT use s jet was to clear it!! as i did it will not work and cost you more!!!
