  • Potentially stupid questions here!

After flicking through the 4x4 section of the autotrader, i've decided that a 2.4 Hilux surf would me my next car of choice. The only worry in my mind is that it's a Japanese import.
Does this pose any particular problems in the following areas:
    1) parts availability
    2) Needing specialist garages for servicing
    3) Increased insurance premiums
    4) Registration difficulties

Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appriciated, but I expect that I will just bite the bullet and buy one anyway!!

Don't worry - parts are readily available from various on line suppliers or Toyota, servicing isnt a problem (the little local garage in my village had no problems doing my surf), there is a whole section on here about various insurance companies specialising in imports - my insurance was no more expensive than my previous UK car, If you are buying the car from a garage or dealer, or a private sale then the car will usually already be registered. The change of owner paperwork is just like a UK car.

Have a look through the forum for info on the surf then you'll have a good idea what to look for. Test drive a few before making up your mind, there are lots about now so no need to buy the first one you see. Also check the for sale section on here for members selling their cars!

      Good luck!!
