Have tried it on and off....

Then there must be an airlock in the cooling system. Remove the radiator cap and start the engine and let it warm up. Set the heater controls to hot and keep an eye on the coolant level. Keep topping it up until it'll take no more.

Keep topping up the coolent? or water? (sorry, very stupid Q probably)

What about the "click" you can hear as I explained to TinTin? What would that be?

Coolant/water, same thing. Coolant usually refers to the water/anti-freeze mix.
Use distilled water to top up, you can by it from motor stores, and use the same colour anti-freeze as well if needed.

Not sure what the click could be, any idea where it's coming from, engine or inside??
