just shame its full of americans.

that was our biggest mistake letting that one go.

      easy there son

BTW - you didnt let it go - you lost!!! (thanks to the french)

yea, its full of those things if you live in ALL of the 50 states, or feel like driving for days on end.

      Its like someone said earlier
Its the same wherever you live.
Theres positives and negatives no matter where you are and the grass is always geener from your side of the fence.

Im an immigrant from Chicago - taking your jobs and women

      Please!
Ive contributed to this country as much if not more that lots of people I know. I employ British workers, pay UK tax, and have never made any claims for benefit. That dosent mean I deserve any recognition or reward, it just means I am a contributing citizen of the UK.

Apart from my silly accent, Im indistinguishable from you.

Also I agree with Bogus. Robin Williams is a prat. What hes describing is protectionism. Hes pandering to Americas blind patriotism and media driven fears of non-existant terrorists and fear of immigrants. Which regarding the case of immigrants in the US is totally stupid argument, as the US in NOT a welfare state and the only effect that these people have on the US economy is positive.

BTW - Im also an immigrant in the US ( a naturalised citizen) as I was originally born in Yugoslavia and IMMIGRATED to the US.

but Bogus is right as well, both britain and america were built on immigrants who were actively encouraged to settle, just because the daily mail

The UN??? really??? When was the last time they REALLY made a difference - or indeed a decision??

India? Slowly but surely becoming a real world power. Why? Because they are doing the work the west will no longer do, or indeed is capable of. Who is building a car industry which WILL overhaul those in the west? China? Already a superpower and have been for some time. Having their own industrial revolution now, but being frowned upon because of their pollution. Did we pollute at all? No, not us! We're BRITISH!

A slight generalisation I think. Dont start quoting Christianity though. Not like it's ever caused any bloodshed itself is it?

a lot of Brits are moving because of the imigrants moving in, the poor weather, the "current" recession and property prices.
OK, eastern europe (where most of our builders are coming from now) - they aren't coming here becasue their countries are (or have been) in recession? Not because of the poor weather? Because their property is worthless? No, it must be because they cant run their own country...

Oh hang on, thats exactly why Brits are leaving, and taking jobs in USA, Australia, New Zealand etc etc... You're talking so much shite

So Brits who want to leave, aren't people who want to leave? As long as they DONT come back after the recession eh?

Crikey. I chose to ignore the original post as it is almost certainly not from Robin Williams (who is a prick, regardless) and most of what is supposed to be ironically funny in it is actually probably a good idea.

Genuine asylum seekers are fleeing opression, violence, imprisonment and often death. They're not leaving because it's not very nice and they don't have a telly. The vast majority of them are able to set up lives here and contribute to our economy and culture.

Economic migrants such as Poles, Lithuanians etc are coming here for work. The Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans have been doing it for years and we do exactly the same thing to them, and others. How many Brits work in Dubai? What was Auf Weidersehn Pet all about?

To compare some minor economic problems and some non-existent social decay in Britain to rape, torture and murder in other countries is belittling and hugely offensive. As Apache says, why don't we stay in our own country and sort it out if it's so easy? Why don't asylum seekers stay at home and sort it out? Because they'll get killed. They are far more effective living in exile somewhere bringing matters to the world's attention and doing what they can to resolve things in another country than they are dead.

Referring to immigrants as 'primitive savages' or 'living in stone huts' belies a level of ignorance that I have never even considered could exist. Eastern Europe has the same level of technology and civilisation as Western Europe. The Middle East was home to some of the great civilisations whilst we were still running around in loin cloths. The Indian sub-continent was fine until we fcuked it up and, again, is our equal in terms of technology and civilastion.

Goodcat, your ridiculous opinion is so full of holes that I could go on forever.

Russia, at the time of the lifting of the Iron Curtain displayed technology that put the willys right up the west!

I know it's a little off topic, but as one small example, if we'd decided to pick a fight with them, at that time we would almost certainly have lost an air war! The level of aerospace technology came as something of a shock to the west.

They come back here when they realise it's not one big pi$$-up/holiday, and the money has run out.

Amen to that. They think it's gonna be cheap and easy living and then reality kicks in.

                              Well said Adam!

One could argue about the percentage of those seeking 'asylum' here that are genuinely feeling oppression and murder from all kinds of countries - and those that are here because they are doing what the Brits do - looking for somewhere a bit more ecomonically and socially acceptable to their needs - we don't (usually) as a society have an issue when people choose to leave the UK and get 'someone elses' jobs in another country - we encoourage it and go on about how much we'd like to do it - as a recent thread or two has pointed out. Yes, Eastern Europeans have taken a lot of jobs here - but why were these posts not taken by the indigenous inhabitants? Just because.

I've had the pleasure of being able to see some of Eastern Europe first hand, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Croatia - as well as Spain, Portugal and Italy - that are all very similar in terms of infrastructure, services, work, cost of living and technology. With the adoption of the Euro a lot of the costs have levelled out and the migration for work has slowed considerably.

This myopic view of places outside the UK where people are coming from, as the European Union expands, as being primative and savage? Outstanding!

If you genuinely believe this, are you a fully paid up member of the BNP? We, as a country have and continue to benefit from the input, hard work and different views that have come from other countries...I've seen through my job how India, China, Latin America and other Asian countries have grown, increased in their capabilities, exports and industry - and we help them do it - and I salute them and their approach to doing work the 'West' doesn't want to and making money from it. The power is moving East, soon it will be the UK that people would look upon as the 'cheaper' location, as the economies of these other countries grow.

Anyway, Apache has already said most of this, but this kind of pathetic, redundant, ill researched and immature nonsense makes me sick.
