Unles there is someone already behind you, then the rears should be switched off, or in front of you when the fronts should be switched off. They're there as a warning, once someone has seen you, there's no need to keep warning them you're there.

not according to the hgv theory tests i done in september. they're on when the distance/visibility is 100metres or less and stay on until its improved visibility.

"The law, as presented by The Highway Code, states that front and rear fog lights must not be used unless visibility is seriously reduced - which generally means when you cannot see further than 100 metres (328 feet) - and that they must be switched off once the visibility improves."

So they should be switched off when you can see the car in front or behind, after all, it will be both less than 100 meters away and visible?

I don't have any on the Surf or my bike, it's also not compulsary to use them. I always find that changing the way I drive to suit the current conditions works well.

I agree but its the tw@s who dont change that cause all the trouble. I,m sure some of them remove thier remaining two brain cells when they get behind a steering wheel

I have a guilty admission to make here.

As some of you know I have an ebay special Ford Escort, which I use for the excessive fuel wastage which is called commuting. For the first week of ownership I kept wondering why everyone was flashing me. It took me a while but hidden behind the steerung wheel (like the clock on our beloved surfs is) was a liitle green light that dimly lights when the front fogs are on.

So I was one of those people driving with the fog lights on, to make matters worse it also has a spoiler and a slightly slipping clutch so acceleration is joined by lots of revs (hasn't got worse in the last year so I'll just wait til it breaks).

Unfortunatley ocasionaly I'll notice that little green light, so I obviously catch it.

So to the point I was trying to get to, after I took you for a long walk in a small room is,

It's not always that the cars are being driven by idiots. Sometimes it's because the vehicles just arn't as good as our Surfs. (Don't ask me about the damn boot catch that protudes at head hight).

Its not so much the "having them on" in rain, snow, fog, ect. Its the forgetting to turn them off till a fortnight later that boils my pi$$.

Most cars have a light to tell you its on but still people "women" forget to turn them off.

DUMMIES SHOULD'NT BE ON THE ROAD.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I just drive behind them with full beams ablaze until they get the message.
If you boil pi$$, does it get rid of that salty taste?

                            You noticed that too huh?

I think they're all frustrated. My excuse is I've been breathing in Gripfill fumes all day.

Hey if us dummies weren't aloud on the road they'd all be empty. The point I was so waffleingly trying to make is that yes cars have a light to tell you they are on, but some manufacturers place them were it is extremely had to see (I have to lean forward and to the right to see it in the escort). I hate fog lights, I only knowing switch them on when I believe that there is the risk of someone running into me (I hate it when the car in front decides to turn their lights on becasue it's raining, and you think they're braking). Unfortunately I have accidentaly switched them on a number of times, and becasue I didn't know I switched them on, there is a delay in switching them off.

I would like to point out that I am not apologising for the idiots that intentially switch them on because they look cool, I am just trying (poorly I admit) that when you see a car with it's fog lights on you don't know the full reasoning behind them being lit.
