Eyup Si are you sure they could get into fenton? runway was a bit short ? Andre has his Victor K2 at Elvington, i never actualy posted at Church Fenton, but had to go and pick up a Nimrod crew from there after a SSAFA show, Vulcans were a plenty over here at Finningley Scampton and Waddington. We have a cockpit section from a vulcan at Aeroventure, I'm afraid XH558 has a lot of unhappy baggage, a lot of money has never made it to the aircraft there is a huge retail and support infrastructure hiding behind it, plus one doctor plemming who likes to wax lyrical about all he has done for this magnificent British built aircraft, they've tried to get Branson to step in, I think he liked Concorde more though.

It's grassman, mate,

Fenton is the closest to us, they were so low you could count the
panels that made up the wings and fuse. so I'm hoping I'm right.
We also used to get a preview of the air show held there as we
were on the flight path, happy days eh? Once saw a Lancaster at
about 1500? foot flying over broadstone resovoir,(near Denby Dale)
WOW!!! wot a sight!!! (could count the rivets). Raced at the Lincs
Show Ground and watched the Battle of Britain Mem' Flight, and the
Red Arrows in practice, racing stopped for about 3/4 hour!!!

He used to survive there (Ha Ha Ha !!!) bred budgies!!
I worked with him for a few years. BTW we (missus & I) are both

I know, i was on there yesterday, totally different, have they opened the junction on the M1 now so you can cut across instead of going up bullerthorpe lane, "tw@t of a junction in rush hour".

Not sure they were ever used for sub hunting though. They were designed as nuclear bombers, though used as conventional bombers in anger in the Falklands.

Yeah - dropped their bombs from 10,000 ft and were supposed to have hit the runway but apparently the Argentinians piled up loads of earth to make it look like the runway had been hit. More symbolic than anything else but a hell of a feat nevertheless.

The interesting thing is that, before the raid on Port Stanley, they practised low level bombing using a small airfield on an island with similar topography by the name of Benbecula. Unfortunately at the time we lived about half a mile from the end of the runway - have you any idea what it's like to have a Vulcan fly directly over your house below 200 ft ??????

It was 01:00 at the time and Jackie and I near enough fell out of bed !

When did you leave Benbecula? I spent a month up there, 1987 or 88 I think, working out of the airfield with pilotless aircraft in between the BA flights ). Stayed in the Dark Island hotel and drank til stupid o'clock every night cos it stayed light til stupidly late!
