  • Arches - yankee-stylee

Well, have had my Surf for a couple of months now and just doing some of the niggly little things on it to "make it mine".

As some of you may remember it is a more unusual 3rd Gen, in that it does not look like it recently ram-raided the Halfords bargain bin, and it not covered in plastic ...I prefer the cleaner lines

(pic for reminder of how it is:

    )

However, the tires do stick out beyond the arches by an inch or so. which is a bit naughty.

I don't want to go the whole hog and throw a load of plastic at it, so does anyone know where I can get some arches like the ones that went on the US spec 4runners (see pic).

I am presuming I could get them in the states........but that is a long (and expensive) way off.

Anyone any ideas on where I could get some..........?

    Or opinions on them........?

Your tyres don't stick out that far, god some of them on here stick out a mile.

Do like those mini arches though.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Saving up for a 2" sus lift, then a 2" body lift......or whatever it takes to get 33's on .......may take six - nine months depending on my poor financial state.

At the moment I drive near a verge or puddle and the car is covered in big rooster tails of mud as it comes off the edges of the tyres and up the sides.

......and I wanted arches...but not the fat cartoon arches of the standard 3rd gen

I could be off slightly, but last time I checked the C&U regs, a rounded protrusion of 35mm or so from the factory bodyplan is permissible, hence they can say bugger all if there is less than an inch and a half of tyre protruding. I'd double check the amount though. That is cited from memory alone.

...thats interesting....I'll have a look at that for legality sakes.

I wonder how far out a set of 33's would protrude

L.A.Supertrux arches are big bucks an big arches.

Most trucks that run them end up looking like there tyres are too small!

My Surf is the same as yours (no arches & chrome bumpers)

                          It's a KZN185G (Grand Touring) instead of a KZN185W (Wide Body).

It should have KZN185G in the vin number.

I have looked into putting fender flares on as well, but as yet not done it.

                          This is what I found:

                          http://www.bushwacker.com/fender.asp...&search=Search

You probably want part number 30905-02 going by your picture.

These people can get them from the USA for you.

                          http://www.specialist-leisure.co.uk/index.php

It was about a year ago, & they quoted about £380...I think....probably why I haven't bought them yet!

One thing that did worry me was that if the USA version 4Runner side runners were different to the Hilux Surf ones, then the flares may not match up.

Yup thanks to those who said Bushwacker...they are the ones as they match OE.

                            However.........they are big bucks.

I may try trawling the US sites for used ones (there must be some from people who put extended ones on).

lclascaris thanks mate.........thought I was the only one with a KZN185G.

Do you have a pic or two of yours?

                            thanks
