yep the ECU learns just like a Surf.
Don't want to hijack the thread but can someone elaborate on this please, it learns what (Defenders don't have ecu's so it's new to me)

What Trev means is that the Surf ECU stores fault codes if there is a problem with one of the sensors on the transmission or engine, which can be accessed for diagnosis.
The Lexus ECUs do the same but they also have an 'intelligence' chip that learns how the car is driven each time and sets the engine/transmission parameters to that driving style.
Both ECUs can be reset by disconnecting the battery/ies for a short while.

if you're going to go for the ls still, make sure both the front seat adjust on all settings electrically, we had one in which failed its mot on the seats not being able to move as it was on a strange sideways angle, and the cost to replace whole seat and motors over 2 grand each Have had quick look on the lexus service history site(perks of working for them) and neither car has any recorded history , which woulld mean they haven't seen a main dealer for a bit, no major bad but better to make sure the book reads true. If you decide to follow either up and they can confirm main dealer history previously, post up the dates, mileage and dealer and i'll get them verified for you.
