  • West Berkshire No Grit Left

Hi all, just got this from West Berkshire Council, Looks like I will be engaging 4WD

    News Release
West Berkshire Council, Policy and Communication
    Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury RG14 5LD Date 06 02 2009
    Switchboard: (01635) 42400 Fax: (01635) 519613 PR 199

    For Immediate Release

    West Berkshire gritting situation

Highways officers at West Berkshire Council report this morning (Friday 6 Feb) that the total stocks of salt-grit available allow for just one more grit-run, and only of the district's primary road network.

Additional stocks are continually being sought, but so far none are forthcoming as a result of the national shortage.

This means that, following the final grit run today, it is unlikely there will be any further gritting of the district's roads until more stocks arrive. Gritting of any roads in the district over the weekend is unlikely.

All drivers are urged to take note of this situation.

Meanwhile, the council's highways contractors have been deployed to town centres to help clear pavements of snow, and spread any grit that is left in roadside grit bins.

Further updates will be issued should the situation change.

iam finding salt bins in place's like
main roads with no one in site or a house for miles
the piont of putting binns in such placers is behond me
i have had to go out and collect rocksalt from such bins
and use it on ower road that is still 3 intch of black ice then a few inch of snow on top
i had to clear it coz i keep geting stuck
there are 2 ways on and off this hill
            and both are hills
we see no gritters on here and no salt bins in site
so i have now got a salt bin on the drive and every old person has now a clear path and both roads in and out of here ar now drivable (just)
but should i have to do all this to keep ower road open
and some tw@t beat the kids snowman up last nightwhy?
